Description

This massage therapy session integrates cupping on targeted areas of the body during part of the session to complement hands-on massage therapy work. This massage will incorporate a combination of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myotherapy, Myofascial, and other techniques. A firm but gentle flowing pressure is used to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension & create other health benefits. Fragrance-free oil & lotion will be used. Massage cupping is a modern adaptation of an ancient healing technique that dates back to Egypt (circa 1500 BC), Greece (400 BC), and China (281–341 AD). Cupping utilizes silicone and plastic cups to create suction and negative pressure to the skin’s surface and underlying tissues. During a session, the cups are gently moved across oiled skin of specific areas of the body using techniques such as gliding, shaking, rotating, and pulling up, or they may be placed in a stationary position for a short time. Benefits of cupping: • Enhance joint mobility and improve range of motion • Loosen and release soft tissue, connective tissue, scarring, and adhesions • Support lymphatic flow and circulation • Increase local blood flow and oxygenation • Release muscle tension and reduce stiffness • Stretch fascia • Help reduce pain and inflammation Cupping may leave skin discoloration/cupping marks after the treatment. The skin discoloration/cupping marks are a form of bruising that will dissipate within a few hours to several weeks. These areas of skin discoloration/cupping marks are typically not painful, but can on occasion be sore, tender and/or itch and there may be soreness in the surrounding muscles. People with a pacemaker/implanted medical device, anemia, bleeding disorders, compromised immune systems, deep vein thrombosis (DVT)/blood clots, edema/lymphedema, had a stroke/heart attack, heart/cardiovascular disease, infections/illness, on blood thinners, organ failure, pregnant, severe allergic skin, thin skin, varicose veins, etc. should not receive this treatment.
